Frequently Answered Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

My daughter has never played lacrosse before.  Is that okay?

Absolutely!  We have girls new to lacrosse every season at all age levels.

When and where are your practices and games?

Our spring 2019 season starts Tuesday, 2/5/19 and will run through mid-May. We practice Tuesdays & Thursdays on the lower field of Twin Peaks Middle School (behind the tennis courts).  Middle school practice is 3:30 -5:30; K-4th grade is 4:00 - 5:30.  Games will start either the first or second weekend of March and are played on the weekends in San Diego county (this is dependent on our opponent and field/ref availability).  Our season culminates the weekend before the Memorial Day weekend at the San Diego Shootout, the end of season tournament sponsored by the San Diego Girls Lacrosse Association.

Can you tell me more about player eligibility?

Girls from 1st thru 8th grades are eligible to play on a GJLOP team.  While most of our players attend Poway Unified Schools and ulitmately attend Poway High School, it's not a requirement.  GJLOP welcomes players who attend private schools or who are homeschooled as well.

What equipment does my daughter need to play lacrosse?

She will need a girls lacrosse stick, a pair of goggles, cleats (lacrosse cleats do exist, but soccer or football cleats are acceptable), and a colored mouthguard (not clear or white; no tab; no pretend teeth printed on it).

Where can I buy equipment?

The closest lacrosse retail store is Lacrosse Unlimited in Solana Beach.  You can also get gear at local sporting good stores like Dick's and Big 5.  Play It Again Sports may have used equipment.  GJLOP also has some loaner equipment available on a case by case basis.

Are you on social media?

Yes!  We're on twitter and Instagram at @girlsjrlaxpoway.
