GJLOP offered a "Try Lax" clinic on Tuesday, July 9th & Thursday, July 11th, 2019. Geared towards K-4th grade girls new to lacrosse, the clinic broke down the fundamentals of throwing, catching, ground balls, shooting, offense, and defense. Former K-4 players who wanted to improve on their fundamental skills were also welcome. Both days ended with participants dividing into two teams and scrimmaging as a way to put together what they had learned.
The "Try Lax" clinic was led by GJLOP's K-2 coach Brittany McGinn, a Maryland native and former 4-year varsity Division I Women’s lacrosse player, who also has additional post-collegiate experience playing on the international stage for the USA Athletes International organization, as well as years of experience coaching clinics and youth rec leagues.
Fourteen girls from the Poway area participated, staying cool by using water balloons instead of lacrosse balls in one drill, and celebrating the end of the clinic with popsicles. One participant told her mom that she no longer wanted to play soccer in the fall - she wanted to play lacrosse instead!
If your K-4 daughter is interested in playing lacrosse this fall, register her at gjlop.com, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. GJLOP also has a middle school program for girls in grades 5-8.
